Expert Race Tammy Coleman of Gung Ho Bikes maintained a furious pace and
was resplendent in her victory on this day. The young woman from
York , Pa bested Melanie Schwartz of the Squardra Coppi team. Melanie,
an accomplished cyclocross racer finished in second place with
a time of 2:49:55. El Presidente Lisa Vible, who has lead FSVS for the past two seasons, had the fastest Expert women’s time. She has worked hard all season long with a dedicated focus. It paid off for her today. Jon Gantz rode an aggressive race, and consistent pace to take the win in today’s Expert Senior I race. Jon crossed the line with a five minute margin of victory over FSVS’s Sky Marsh. Sky has been working very hard this year as a road racer, and was able to parlay his efforts in this area into a 2nd place ride today. Taking the final spot on the podium was Team Snow Valley ’s Kris Kendall. Maryland ’s Jens Nielson riding for Bike Doctor maintained a furious pace of over 11 miles an hour in route to his victory in the Expert Senior II 30-34 class today. Neilson was successful in holding off City Bike's Evan Ellicott by just 55 seconds. Both riders are veterans of the Maryland /DC racing scene and today their experience paid off. Matt Vahey, a former beginner and sport Super Series Champion has changed his focus this year and has been racing road. Matt found his way back to the dirt and a strong finish with a 3rd place at Fair Hill. Matt is a fan favorite, and cheers could be heard for him around the course. Kevin Causak has been a regional strong man for years. His race today was no exception as he powered away from the competition winning the 1st Place Expert Vet I race by over 4 minutes. Kevin has helped to lead team Tailwind to the small team championship this year. Taking second place was Jed Prentice, on a single speed. Jed, one of the regions top single speeders, chose to race his age group today, despite the obvious advantage gained by running the single speed. Jed commented on his fitness “Riding the ragged edge between peak performance and burnout that is common for me this time of year, there are good days and bad days. This was a good day. In general I'm in good shape at the moment, for me, anyway.” Finishing out the podium was Mike Buchness of Bike Doctor who is another veteran from Maryland who has built a strong reputation as a tough rider who delivers results. Today was no exception. All American Racing’s Roger Masse, the current MABRA 35+ cyclocross champion, translated his versatile experience into an Expert Vet II win today. Roger finished with a time of 2:15, and had a four minute gap back to his closest rival Antonio de Barros. DeBarros averaged over 10 miles per hour and was 2 minutes ahead of third place finisher Paul Stahman. Who is the master of Expert Master Men 45+?
