Donald Pagano
Jr. - Yellow Breeches Racing won the Sport Vet 2 race in convincing
style with a time of 1:37:52. We can assume that he could have won
by even more of a gap after reading this excerpt from his interview: Did
you have any unusual problems? "Chain suck big time!!!
Then I lost my number plate and jumped off the bike to run back and
retrieve it. What was I thinking?! I didn't even know what my number
was, and there were number plates all over the trail! I gave up on
the number plate, and tried to baby every shift the rest of the race.
The big ring was off limits, and shifts from the middle to granny
were touchy at best. Not fun!" About those number plates
- the number plate manufacturer told the race promoters that the
plates were Scott Reynolds - Tailwind was first over the line in the Sport Master 1 race with a time of 1:44:13. Steve Heede - First Capital Velo was in hot pursuit placing second just 19 seconds back and right behind him came Bill Nagel - Guy's Racing Club 57 seconds back in third place. The Master 2 race was competitive with 1st and 2nd place less than a minute apart. Robert Perna - Beans bikes placed first with a time of 1:53:18. The promoter of our next Classic Series race, the D&Q Summer Sizzler June 27, Gloucester Community College - Sewell, NJ Chris Hinman - No Cents Racing (who had the nerve to beat me at the Allaire, NJ race in the late '90s and then stand at the finish line with his congratulatory hand extended) took second place just 55 seconds back. Chris has done great things year after year for our sport and is an excellent racer, trail builder and race promoter. Third place was earned in this tough field by Randy Hitchens - Bike Line. Clydesdale RaceThe Clydesdale race was fairly close with the top three racers all within a couple of minutes from first place. Gian Dodici took first place Clydesdale in 1:47:43. He started slow after not warming up much and after the first lap picked things up while still keeping a fairly even pace. What's interesting is that Gian did the 40 mile MONSTER EXPERT loop at Michaux last week but only mentioned in his interview that he was "still hurting from last weekend at Michaux". Second place was taken by Joel Gwadz - City Bikes who deserves honorable mention for exceptional sportsmanship. Here's an excerpt from Gian's interview that explains things: "Joel Gwadz, who was in front of me, stopped to assist a racer who had crashed hard and was lying in the weeds about fifteen feet off of the trail. It's great to see that kind of sportsmanship and Joel should be commended." Joel came in second place 1:15 back. Third place less than a minute behind Joel was Jeff Dubeck - Guy's Racing Club. Single Speed RaceLes Leach - Wissahickon/Yards Brewing won the Single Speed race hands down. His closest competitor was more than seven minutes back. Les is the person who has saved this website from demise more than once and does all of the "real" computer work like developing the upcoming races database and putting together the new design. How anyone can be that fast with NO GEARS racing in the hills of Granogue is hard to phantom. Les clocked in at 2:05:22. Keith Goulet - Wooden Wheels had a great race for second place with the infamous Marc Vettori - Spot Brand. Marc was team captain of Wooden Wheels and just like Lauri Webber, is still involved in helping out the team and being involved in promoting our sport in numerous ways. Keith finished second 7:20 back from superman Les, and Marc came in 8:56 back. Both Keith and Marc raced Michaux Single Speed last week!! Marc had enough energy to run the kids race that went very well........... from his interview: "James Ambagis and I got to run the kid’s race. We had 22 riders, in 3 classes. The kids had a ton of fun and the fields were really competitive. I think I made the last race a lap too long, as all the kids were pushing their bikes up the little climb on the last lap. That was funny. It was cool having all of them on the podium and giving them water bottles and what not. That was really fun. We had sprint finishes, kids leaning on each other in the corners. I’m telling you we could market this stuff, off track betting, If NBC will show Arena football, Fox would air this for sure…. " |

definitely "weather
resistant"........... however they became close to tissue paper
consistency with the slightest bit of moisture. It was amazing that
Millennium Sports was able to time the race so well under these conditions.
The manufacturer gave the promoters a full refund and promises to
look into the exact lot number and see what happened. Paul Plowright
- Cycle Works took second Sport Vet 2, 1:49 back and John Miller
- Guy's Racing Club came in third, 2:51 back.
