Expert Race

Antonio DeBarros - Wheel and NutLauri Webber - Independent Fabrication took off at the start of the Expert/Pro Women's race and was first into the singletrack ahead of all three pro women on a singlespeed. We don't want to mention that she is older than all of her competitors but, it doesn't seem to matter to her. She had a knee injury earlier in the year and has recovered well taking 1st Place in the Expert Women 35+ race.

Rick Mihills - First State Velo Sport and owner of Henry's Bike Shop - 4809 Limestone Rd / Stoney Creek Plaza, Wilmington, DE was the fastest Expert Senior 1 man of the day. Senior 1 men are supposed to be 19-29........ Rick is OLDER than that but chooses to race in the fastest group. He has our respect big time pulling off a 1st Place with a time of 1:30:41. Shaun Beitler took 2nd Place Expert Senior 1 at 1:31:25 and directly behind him crossing the line was 3rd Place Charlie Goss - Systems Integration Support only 9 seconds back at 1:31:34.

Chris Richardson - Bike Doctor won the Expert Men Senior 2 race finishing with a time of 1:47:57. Kevin Fryberger - Bean's Bikes took second at 1:54:17.

John Cleary - Wooden Wheels crossed the line taking 1st Place Expert Vet 1 with an almost nine minute gap. It was necessary to keep the formidable Bike Line Corporate team from a total sweep of the podium as from that point on it was all about Bike Line. They took the next three spots with Rolf Rimrott in 2nd Place (1:34:25), Marco Fanari in 3rd (1:35:26) and Christopher Fallon taking 4th (1:37:15).

The Expert Vet 2 Race was won by Andre Goldstein - Guy's Racing who ran a smooth race ending up with a solid lead of over 3 minutes finishing up at 1:30:27. It was Antonio DeBarros - Wheel and Nut in second (1:34:01) and Guy's Racing's John Miller finishing 3rd with a time of 1:47:24.

Expert Master 45+ Stuart Crouch did the impossible. He beat 2nd Place (1:33:16) Tim Messersmith - First Capital Velo (4th in the world 50+ Master) and came over the line with a time of 1:30:31 which would have been 3rd Place Pro or 1st Place Senior 1. He's a spry 46 year old wouldn't you say? Another surprising fact is that he had a problem with his derailleur - check out this excerpt from his interview - "Just after starting the second lap I jammed a stick into my front derailleur and bent it pretty bad. I was able to twist it around so the chain would move but it was rubbing the rest of the race. I thought for sure it would eventually lock up but the Shimano gods must have smiled on me."   A respectable 3rd place in this tough field was Karl Faruzel - Wooden Wheels (1:39:22).
