April 18, 2004
Sunday, April 18th, was a beautiful day for the WV Mountain Bike Association's
2nd Point Series Race at Wood County’s Mountwood Park. In addition to about 15 mountain bike
racing kids, 205 mountain bikers came out to test their mettle against
the park’s trail system.
Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia’s Team Manager and WV Mountain Bike
Association’s Vice President Steve Thaxton introduced
State Senator Donna Boley to the crowd during the racer’s meeting,
where she informed the crowd that this was her first mountain bike race. She then had the opportunity to start
each of the four racing groups off. The
WV Legislature recently passed! a unanimous joint resolution to permanently
make June WV’s Mountain Bike Month.
Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia had a great day at Mountwood, with team members
Clay Evans (Men’s Expert/Pro), Steve Thaxton (Men’s
Expert Vet), Mandi Riddle (Women’s Expert/Pro), and Andrew Fetty
(Men’s Junior Expert) all taking 1st place spots in their
classes. Other team members
Bryan Fawley and Joey Riddle finished 3rd and 4th respectively
in the Men’s Expert/Pro class, Michael Haid placed
2nd in Men’s Sport 26-35, Courtney Dudley (Women’s
Expert/Pro) and Wes Stafford (Men’s Sport Vet) placed 5th in
their classes, Cai Clothier (Men’s Junior under 14) finished 6th in
his class after a mechanical problem which left him running his bike for
two thirds of his course.
Team Bon Jovi/West
Virginia will be racing next Sunday, April 25th, at the WV Mountain
Bike Association’s 3rd Point Series race at the Big Bear
Lake Mountain Classic near Hazelton, WV – so
