Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Rode hard the previous weekend and early week, then rested late week.
Did you achieve your goals for this race?
Yes, my sweetheart came to this race and I wanted to do A good job for her.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Yes, it seemed like the singletrack had a perfect mix of up and downhill that kept my heartrate consistent. Other than a headcold, I felt fantastic.
Did you have any problems trying to get to the single-track first?
No, not really. I hated the mass start but at least they gave us 3/4 mile of open field to thin out. I passed a lot of riders on the first uphill past the EZ-up.
Were the riders courteous while passing in the single-track?
I did not encounter any bad behavior but on the other hand people WOULD NOT FRIGGING MOVE OVER NO MATTER HOW SLOW THEY WERE GOING.
What was your favorite part of the course?
The cool left hander around the pond, and all the singletrack, every inch.
When did you put the hammer down?
As soon as they rang the cowbell, I went nucking futz.
Did you have any unusual problems?
About 1/2 mile into the singletrack, there was a straight section with groundhog holes on either side. I hit one and went over the bars bigtime. Some of my friends saw this and confirmed it was truly fugly.
How would you rate the course?
Definitely an ELEVEN.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Other than the mass start, yes.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Fantastic race. Loved it.
