Did you do anything special to prepare for this race? No but I've tapered down the past 4 or 5 days so I was fairly fresh. Rumor has it that you did a 90 mile road race yesterday? Yep. It was fairly flat but it was fast. You could sit in but still that distance takes some power away. Were you strong from start to finish? No, I was definitely paying for the race yesterday for at least the first lap. Chris Newell (Cannondale/Bike Doctor) got away and I had to pretty much let him go 'cause I wasn't ready to go that fast yet. I just kept one pace and sure enough, he came back and I put a surge on him and opened up a gap. When did you put the hammer down? I surged once pretty good during the second lap. Did you have any unusual problems? No, usually I'm the one to have unusual problems (laughs) but not today. |

How do you rate the course? Very good. It's always a fun course here at Iron Hill. You always get a little diversity.... it's up, down, twisty, tight and fast ... it's a great mountain bike race. Were you happy with the way the race was run? Definitely. Everything went off on time and it looks like the results are done on time too. They're pretty good about sticking to the clock here. You know what you're getting. If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently like not do a 90 mile road race the day before? No, not unless there was an Iron Hill Championship on the line or something... then maybe I'd do something a little different.... but it's all good bike racing. You've got to cram in as much as you can. Is there anything you would like to add? I'd like to thank 'em for putting on a race here. It's been a good many years that Iron Hill has been hosting mountain bike races. I think I did my first cross-country race here. It's great that the tradition lives on. |
