Keith Goulet

How was your fitness level going into this race?

Strongest so far this season.

Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?

Not really. I was very close to the last rider. It was by design though because my strategy was not to go out too hard at the start.

Were you strong from start to finish?

No. My first and second laps felt good, but shortly into the third lap I felt my legs beginning to weaken and cramp. It felt like it took an eternity to finish the last lap.

When did you put the hammer down?

I never did. I was afraid to blow up. I really was just looking to stay consistent and finish the race top ten.

Did you have any unusual problems?

No. Just my usual leg cramping problem causing me to stop twice to rest/stretch on the third lap.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Yes. I felt my team (Wooden Wheels) organized/executed an excellent race and I was proud to be part of it.

Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?

Some of my teammates, who were marshaling at the first road crossing, provided support by dancing like hot sexy strippers. OK...maybe not so hot and sexy, but there was dancing.

Anything you would like to add?

This was one of the hardest races for me. Very hot and a lot of tough climbs. I had no idea I was in contention during the race. I was very surprised to learn I had broken top five. I guess it was a tough race for everyone.
