MBR.com: Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

Jason: No, not really. Tried to go to bed early. Went to a football game yesterday, had a couple of beers but I think I went to bed early enough so it didn't really matter.

MBR.com: In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained on average?

Jason: I ride my bike to work everyday, so I stay in constant shape. I guess 2 hours or so.

MBR.com: Were you strong from start to finish?

Jason: I felt pretty good. The start was a little strange. I just tried to let the race come to me instead of starting off too strong then having nothing left at the end so...It's a singletrack course and the beginnings pretty tricky. You can get stuck behind a lot of people and track position means a lot. I think that's how the first two guys got away from me. Once I broke away I didn't really see anybody the whole rest of the day. I think out of the ten miles I probably rode 7 or 8 of it completely by myself. It was a little bit of a lonely race but it was still fun.

MBR.com: When did you put the hammer down?

Jason: It's kind of hard to say cause I was by myself so...I was just trying to ride pretty strong and I was actually riding pretty conservatively. I was hoping that the race would come back to me but I never really did get back in touch with the leaders (overall leaders). They beat me by a minute so. Perhaps if I rode a little harder maybe I could have caught them.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

Jason: No, it was slick but I think everybody had to deal with that so... nothing for me really.

MBR.com: How do you rate the course?

Jason: It was a nice course. It's real rocky in a couple of places but there's some nice descents. I like it here. It's always a fun ride. It's very technical instead of just a flat-out sprint.

MBR.com: Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Jason: Yeah, for the most part. Actually, I have a little bit of a dispute about the finishing order. People were telling me I was in second place for the whole race and then on the last lap people started telling me I was third and I know nobody passed me. When I checked with the finishers, they didn't keep in order after the first lap and they didn't keep a lap time or anything like that so there's no way for me to protest. It really didn't matter too much to me because I know I didn't win. 2nd's no different than 3rd - it's still the first of the losers so...It's not a big deal, it's really not and I'm still happy to finish 3rd Overall and win my Class. Feels pretty good.

MBR.com: What was your prize for First Place?

Jason: Got a nice Specialized Air Force 2 Frame Pump - think I might give it to my fiancee - she'll be happy.

MBR.com: If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

Jason: I might try to come out a little harder and not get caught in that traffic but I was pretty happy with the way things went so I probably wouldn't change too much.

MBR.com: Is there anything you would like to add?

Jason: I just hope that next year, they keep it in order of the first lap so that way if something like this does happen you at least have a way to find out for sure where you placed. I don't want to accuse anybody wrongly, I just don't know. I just thought it was a little odd to be by yourself all day. Your mind starts playing tricks on you and you do start to wonder. That would be the only thing I would change.
