How was your fitness level going into this race?
Good.
Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?
Yes.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Pretty much... but as the race progressed I could feel my legs starting
to fatigue from slogging through the thick and slippery mud.
When
did you put the hammer down?
At the start. I made sure I was leading going into the singletrack so I
wouldn't get jammed up by others who might find themselves in difficulty
due to the severe conditions.
Did you have any unusual problems?
No problems, whatsoever. I took extra precautions due to the muddy conditions.
As usual, my bike rode like a dream.
Were you happy with the way the
race was run?
The race was run very well. Hats off to the promoter and all the volunteers
who braved the less-than-ideal conditions.
Did you have any interesting
experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
Not really. It was pretty uneventful in that department. The few spectators
that were there gave plenty of cheers, though. I'm always thankful for
that.
Anything you would like to add?
I'd like to congratulate my team mate, Caitlyn, for winning the women's
race. And I'd like to thank her dad for handing me water during the race.
It's great to have them affiliated with our program.
I'd also like to thank my sponsors: Trek, JBL, VW, Fox suspension, Hayes
brakes, Sram drivetrain, Bontrager tires and components, Chris King headsets,
Nike shoes and clothing, Zeal eyewear, Swany gloves, Powerbar, Emer'gen-C
drink mix.
And one more thanks... to Bill Deputy and mountainbikeracer.com. You
rock!
