After this horrible winter when compared to last, I would guess I'm down about 20% from my fitness at the end of the series last year. (Whatever that means-I'm sure everyone else is too.) Absolutely; after last year having to blow up at the start every race w/the group chasing after Pat Kelly (you remember those starts!) Hit the first waterbars on the left side in 4th or 5th. Yes. Felt great on the climbs mostly spinning my easiest cog in the middle ring. I felt some calf cramps approaching toward the end, but they never came. No particular time. I try to keep the same intensity/heart rate during the entire race, recovering a little on the downhill sections. Maybe a little extra on the last field section before the finish, just to empty my gas tank. None, none, none......I had raced a hardtail the last 3 years. After switching to the BLUR, I can only say WOW reference its performance. I think I owe my finish position to dual suspension. Everything shifted/braked/suspended/clipped/ ect...just as it was supposed to. The only problem with the Blur frame is that it was a massive mud collector around the bridge on the seat stays; and I had to bunnyhop several times when the build up started to drag against the rear tire. Great, except for the wait at the end, reference the mix up in the Senior results. The "PRODUCT GIVEAWAY" toss, as you called it, was pretty cool. Kudos to all involved. The only thing out of the normal that happened was that I got to stand on a podium spot at the end. (I was able to give my 2 year old son a medal-WAY COOL!) Also, Vet I racers who I met or got to see again from last year: You guys are what racing is all about. There were no egos raging; everyone was competively on edge, but polite, and it was nice hearing everybody saying good luck, be safe, etc...VERY NICE YOU GUYS! I thought it was a great start to the Super Series (not my result, but the course, conditions, racers, staff, volunteers) See You In Reading, PA Extra thanks to Jason, Jeanne, and John from Pro Pedals, for all the tech and moral support. Jay-the bike ran great; thanks for the fork swap on zero notice-"the patient absolutely survived the transplant". |
